Of particular importance for applied work is the fact that the restrictions from the theory can be employed to obtain estimates of cross price elasticities and flexibilities that would not be available in their absence. These estimates are important to agricultural policy problems which increasingly recognize interactions and secondary effects of existing and proposed programs. This study is concerned with an application of the theory in estimating a system of demand equations for twenty-seven food commodity groups and a nonfood group. After a review of the basis for the prior information supplied by the theory, it is applied to times series and cross section data on the Canadian economy. Resulting estimates are compared to others for Canada and the U.S. In addition, a framework is presented for utilizing the estimated demand parameters in forecasting and policy analysis. 000149021 650__ $$aAgricultural and Food Policy 000149021 650__ $$aDemand and Price Analysis 000149021 700__ $$aHassan, Zuhair A. 000149021 700__ $$aJohnson, S.R. 000149021 8564_ $$9d1d62a19-2941-46dd-9f44-ed1e48ec31c1$$s25012851$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/149021/files/Consumer%20Demand%20for%20Major%20Foods%20in%20Canada.pdf 000149021 887__ $$ahttp://purl.umn.edu/149021 000149021 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:149021$$pGLOBAL_SET 000149021 912__ $$nSubmitted by Linda Eells (lle@umn.edu) on 2013-05-15T17:23:56Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Consumer Demand for Major Foods in Canada.pdf: 25012851 bytes, checksum: 067a572bc0d78cb216443dcc5bc839f5 (MD5) 000149021 912__ $$nMade available in DSpace on 2013-05-15T17:23:59Z (GMT).
