Some regions, such as south-west Australia, are projected to be particularly at risk of adverse outcomes associated with climate change. The rate and extent of warming, along with impacts on rainfall distributions, are key determinants of agricultural impacts and will affect the success of adaptation strategies. The likely gradual unfolding of climate change should provide farmers in many regions and industries with sufficient time to utilise or develop adaptation strategies. Many of these strategies are likely to be based on farmers’ current responses to climate variability. Investments in R&D and innovation could be important ingredients in facilitating farmers’ adaptation to climate change. Farmers are likely to face additional costs of capital adjustment due to climate change. Investment in long-lived climate-dependent agricultural assets such as irrigation infrastructure, vineyards and agroforestry will become more problematic. Investing in ecological assets in rural regions, especially where these assets may become stranded by climate change, also will be increasingly problematic. 000126110 650__ $$aAgribusiness 000126110 650__ $$aCrop Production/Industries 000126110 650__ $$aEnvironmental Economics and Policy 000126110 650__ $$aFarm Management 000126110 650__ $$aFood Security and Poverty 000126110 650__ $$aLand Economics/Use 000126110 650__ $$aLivestock Production/Industries 000126110 650__ $$aPolitical Economy 000126110 650__ $$aProductivity Analysis 000126110 6531_ $$aClimate change 000126110 6531_ $$aAustralia 000126110 6531_ $$aagricultural impacts 000126110 6531_ $$aagricultural adaptation 000126110 6531_ $$aagricultural production 000126110 6531_ $$asouth-west Australia 000126110 6531_ $$awarming 000126110 6531_ $$arainfall distributions 000126110 6531_ $$aadaptation strategies 000126110 6531_ $$aR&D 000126110 6531_ $$ainnovation 000126110 6531_ $$acosts 000126110 6531_ $$aassets 000126110 700__ $$aKingwell, Ross S. 000126110 720__ $$aMalcolm, Bill$$eeditor 000126110 720__ $$aWright, Vic$$eeditor 000126110 773__ $$tAustralasian Agribusiness Review$$j14$$d2006 000126110 8564_ $$92992a718-91ff-4014-99d8-81325ab520fe$$s377658$$uhttps://ageconsearch.umn.edu/record/126110/files/Kingwell.pdf 000126110 887__ $$ahttp://purl.umn.edu/126110 000126110 909CO $$ooai:ageconsearch.umn.edu:126110$$pGLOBAL_SET 000126110 912__ $$nSubmitted by Nanette Esparon (nesparon@unimelb.edu.au) on 2012-06-22T07:24:11Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Kingwell.pdf: 377658 bytes, checksum: 680e2cab3dd6b8843b8158968eaa7021 (MD5) 000126110 912__ $$nMade available in DSpace on 2012-06-22T07:24:14Z (GMT).
