An Analysis of Fines Default in English Magistrates' Courts

Data collected by the National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (NACRO) on fines default in English Magistrates' courts is analysed using a sequential probability model. It is found that an offender's previous history and employment status play a significant role in determining fines default behaviour.
