Abstract

For the past forty years, commodity checkoff programs have operated with funds contributed by producers. Over the last half century, several sectors of the agricultural industry have recognized the need to promote their products and have sought legislation authorizing a checkoff program for their producers. As a result of the rapid develop-. ment of the commodity promotion and research field, several issues have emerged that impact the manner in which these programs are operated and will be operated in the future.
