Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine whether the organizational innovation construct influences, in a positive way, the operating performance of the coffee industry from the managers’ point of view. To this end, we conducted a descriptive quantitative research with 86 managers working in the coffee industry. The data collected, treated by structural equation modeling, indicated a valid relation between the constructs’ organizational innovation and the operational performance. Based on these results, we determined that there is a positive relation between innovation and operational performance. In other words, the practice of actions related to organizational innovation has positive influence over the operating performance in the coffee industry. Innovation contributes in order for the organization to overcome the difficulties of an unfavorable economic environment and achieve superior operational performance. Finally, this study aimed at contributing to expand the knowledge concerning the coffee industry and to achieve grants in the corporate environment, to understand the possible impacts of innovation over operating performance in the coffee industry.
