Introduction de varietes d'oignons en Martinique

----- Onions from various tropical and subtropical regions were tested in Martinique during 1984. The criteria used for selection were good bulbing ability, good storage and ability to set seeds under Martinquan conditions. In all, 93 varieties were introduced, of which 44% were selected. Seeds were obtained from 15 varieties when bulbs were replanted after 45 days cold treatment at 7 to 11 degrees Centigrade. Origins of these varieties were: Israel, 2; United States, 3; Brazil, 2; Africa, 8. Further improvement will be made by two cycles of mass selection followed by a breeding programme.
