Az alternatív gazdaságtan követői közül sokan gondolják úgy, hogy mivel a nyugati keresztény gondolkodás a kapitalizmus egyik alapvető ideológiai forrása, így ez az értékrend tehető felelőssé a hagyományos közgazdaságtan problémáiért, kudarcáért is. Így többen a keleti vallási értékekben keresik a közgazdaságtan megújításának lehetőségét, köztük a buddhista közgazdaságtan legfontosabb kutatója E. F. Schumacher, aki „A kicsi szép” című művében fejtette ki a keleti gazdasági gondolkodás etikai előnyeit. De valóban más-e a keleti gazdasági tanítás? És valóban a keresztény értékekből származnak-e nyugati gazdaság problémái? Véleményem szerint a hagyományos közgazdaságtan elméleti és gyakorlati kudarcainak oka nem az, hogy a nyugati gazdasági gondolkodás a zsidó-keresztény értékekből – és nem más vallások értékeiből – került levezetésre, hanem hogy azoktól, és az erkölcsi parancsoktól független tudományként próbálta és próbálja definiálni önmagát. A világvallások gazdasági tanítása nem is áll olyan messze egymástól, a gazdaságetika legfontosabb alapelvei éppúgy levezethetőek a keresztény filozófiából, mint a buddhizmusból. -------------------------------------------------- Christian ideology is one of the fundaments of capitalism that is why many alternative economists think that Christian values are responsible for the problems and pitfalls of mainstream economics. They search for the renewal possibility in the Eastern religion values, e.g. E. F. Schumacher explains the ethical advantages of the Eastern religions in his work ‘Small is beautiful’. Is the Eastern economic message really something different? And do the problems of the Western economics originate from the Christian values? In my opinion Christian-Jewish ideology is not the real cause of mainstream economics’ theoretic and practical failures. The very problem is that it defines itself as a value-neutral, independent and quasi-natural science. The economic messages of the major religions of the world are not far from each other. The principles of business ethics and alternative economics can be deduced as well from the Christian philosophy as from the Eastern one.
