The aim of the paper was to display the agricultural material supply, global production and gross value added in agriculture in the EU countries. In higher developed countries the sectors providing means of production and providing services (sphere I) as well as food and fodder processing industry (sphere III) are of the highest importance, while the significance of internal flows in agriculture is rather smaller. Agriculture mainly plays the role of a material supplying sector. In the poorer EU countries, including Poland, the internal supply flow in agriculture is still of the highest importance. The agri-food sector is in an early step of development. Importance of the first sector, especially services, in the material supply of agribusiness ought to increase. The main condition for changing the situation in Poland is to generate an economic growth and to be able to benefit from the CAP instruments. / Synopsis. Celem opracowania jest przedstawienie zaopatrzenia materiałowego (zużycia pośredniego), produkcji globalnej i wartości dodanej brutto w sektorze rolnym w krajach Unii Europejskiej. W krajach o wysokim poziomie rozwoju gospodarczego w zaopatrzeniu materiałowym rolnictwa duże znaczenie posiada sektor wytwarzający środki produkcji i usługi (sfera I) oraz przetwórstwo rolno- spożywcze (sfera III), natomiast obrót wewnętrzny jest na niskim poziomie. Rolnictwo jest głównie działem surowcowym. Z kolei w krajach biedniejszych, w tym w Polsce, w rolnictwie dominujące znaczenie odgrywa produkcja surowców wewnątrz tego sektora, czyli obrót wewnętrzny. Sektor rolny w tych krajach znajduje się we wczesnym stadium przeobrażeń w kierunku nowoczesności. W zaopatrzeniu materiałowym przede wszystkim musi wzrosnąć rola sfery pierwszej, w tym głównie sektora usługowego. Głównym warunkiem przeprowadzenia zmian w tym zakresie jest przede wszystkim wzrost gospodarczy i objęcie całego sektora rolno-żywnościowego instrumentami WPR UE.
