presente estudio......The objectives of the authors are to study the land consolidation projects in different countries
of the European Union where this policy is important. This paper studies the significant
characteristics in the considered countries, followed by their historical background,
accomplishments, goals of the plans, steps that are being followed and how land valuation
is carried out.
The experience gained in these countries is a reference element that contributes to think
about what land consolidation is and its future application in the regions of Spain.
The observed evolution in these countries shows a change in the goals of parcel distribution
and improvement of farm productivity to broader goals that have to do with the development
of the whole rural environment as a key instrument for regional development.
On the other hand, the need of planning coordination between the different administrations,
either in the vertical (from state to municipalities) or horizontal structure (agriculture,
forestry or environment planners) is an observed shortage.
