Abstract

The history of starvation in the world is very tightly linked with the history of humanity. The problem of starvation was discussed in 1945 at the Worldwide Constitutional Conference of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The main goal of the organization was and remains a food policy for the benefit of all, in order to liberate all people from starvation. Since 1950, there has been a notable decrease in agricultural production per capita in the developing counties in comparison to the needs. In 1972 and 1973, poor harvests created a dramatic situation in many regions of the world and once again it was in the developing countries where people suffered the most. In the Sahel countries, many thousand of lives would have been lost if the international community and the United Nations had not helped.
