Abstract
When sample estimates are plotted in time series, part of the irregularity displayed by
the plotted points is chargeable to sampling errors in the individual estimates. This
paper describes a method for smoothing the series to eliminate effects of the sampling
errors. Fluctuations that can be ascribed legitimately to actual changes in the "true"
values are retained.
